Never needed anyone for so long

[lotte scott, unknown, unknown]

I thought I was getting old enough not to get that feeling in my stomach all the time like it might drop out/tear itself to shreds. I can sit on window sills and bar stools all day long singing David Bowie and having arguments with myself. I try to avoid having real conversations with anyone so I just spout my mouth off about anything and anyone and cut off the hair of best friend. Remember when I pretended I didn't see you, haha, which time?

This is really great music.

Sorry, I've been slowly dropping off the radar recently because of uni/generally being lazy, but I think I'm back for a while, we'll see how long it lasts this time.

I live in a graveyard

[via suzywire]

I've been hiding all my life, I hide from you so you don't know how alone I am. So you don't know how much I want you. I don't know how to tell the truth, the truth betrays me. In the end all I can do is laugh freely at least.

I could sleep wherever I lay my head

[unknown]

"If I like you, it means at least one of these things: you are disinterested, I am scared to admit I like you so I am not going to call you back, I will write about the possibility of us everywhere, I will email my best friend about your voice, you are not single, you don't know my name, I really have to know what your favourite type of music is, I like to eat green apples and think of you, I didn't mean to become your best friend but now I don't know how to tell you that I'm in love with you, you are not my type but I like your t shirt (and your eyelashes), I am an idiot, you are beautiful, I really want to call you, I didn't see you today so I am going to yell at everyone, you are miles away, I am desperate, you don't even know me, I want to get drunk with you, let's sleep under the sky together, I wonder if you would like to wake up next to me, I want you for my birthday."

Turn me inside out

[unknown]

Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti - Round and Round

Sometimes things are cold and bleak. And you literally mean that. You really need to get somebody out to turn on your heat, and the sky looks like it needs to be outside a bit more often. And sometimes your interiority matches the world, like you really were meant for each other--even if the world seems like a big asshole. At that point, you stop drawing comparisons between yourself and the world.

Well mercy me

[jean paul gaultier haute couture ss 2008/villa fallet by le corbusier]

We had an idea in the attic of your house after your parents were asleep, passing a cigarette and a stolen bottle of whiskey between us next to an open window. You said you couldn't hear a thing anymore, see anything, so I said we need to change, we need to be somewhere new, let's pack all our shit into leather suitcases, all the books we want to read, all the clothes we want to wear, I'm packing up my three leather suitcases (two filled with books) and scraping the money from the bottom of my drawers for a place on an ugly freight ship around the world to get to Paris to find the lives we're supposed to live. Living in a metal box, on the sea, no solid land, breathing fresh, few people, less noise, more noise. Grinning like my only confidence, you tell me of all the fur you're going to wear.

I've got a thrist for liquid gold

Owen Pallett - Lewis Takes Action

[Heartland]

"While working on Heartland, I was getting this strange feeling... seeing videos of The-Dream making hits in a manner of hours. Hearing about Jona Bechtolt programming songs in twenty minutes. Meanwhile I was taking a full eleven months to produce this record, and working on it day and night. The very nature of it, featuring a fifty-piece strong section, full percussion, winds and brass... it seemed so proposterous, especially given that 80% of the people who'll hear it will be listening to freely downloaded mp3s on laptop speakers.

One of the things that kept me sane about it, was to read these gigantic, overblown classics of literature. Ulysses; sure, but also Complete Proust, Moby Dick and Gravity's Rainbow. I'd read one of those National Geographic style "anatomy of a whale" chapters of Moby Dick and feel like Herman was holding my hand, saying 'There, there, it'll be alright.'"

Owen Pallett on the torture garden.

I think this is one of the most noble and moving things I've read about music recently. I have real groundbreaking emotional moments listening to this record and thinking of the hard work and isolation that went into this project and how Mr. Pallett created an epic and beautiful piece of art that will endure and hopefully be appreciated how it's supposed to be appreciated.

Have one on me

Joanna Newsom played a remarkable show at the Tivoli on Saturday night. It's the first time I've seen her live and, apparently, her first show in about a year and a half. I'm a pretty big fan and have been pretty excited about her new album, Have One On Me, which is due out Feb via Drag City (probably earlier in Aus) and the set was filled with new material, the first time her and her band had played it live. There were occasional mistakes in the performance but her pretty much boundless grace, humour and obvious talent more than made up for it as the crowd were spellbound for the two hour long show. My friend nabbed the setlist afterwards and there were ten new songs in the set, and all remarkable. The music was phenomenal, somehow more accessible than Ys but still containing the bravery and beauty of her poetic story telling and verse.
